Over the last year, students in all grade levels have had to face new stressors in their academic and personal lives. Students have changed learning styles and the stability that school provided them has changed. All of these changes have not replaced, but simply added on to the typical day-to-day stressors that come along with being an adolescent. If you are interested in hearing about how teaching and implementing social emotional learning into my own classroom has helped my student’s response to stress in their lives, this session is for you! My research focused on how social emotional learning could be implemented into my 5th grade classroom as a tool to help my students respond to stress in their lives, both academically and personally. All of the lessons I taught and additional strategies and activities I used could be implemented into other upper-elementary and middle school classrooms, and adapted to work in lower and higher grade levels. Join me in discussion about how we, as teachers, can work to help our students respond in a more positive and healthy way to the stress in their lives.
