“I feel like I am just making this stuff up!”. This is what I have said about guided reading instruction for the first few years of my teaching career. Guided reading is a small group approach to reading instruction. I chose to research about guided reading instruction because I knew it was important for my students, but I knew I wasn’t doing it effectively. If you have ever felt this way about reading instruction, this session is for you. I have implemented consistent guided reading groups with my virtual third grade class throughout this school year. The students I teach come from a fairly diverse set of backgrounds. The strategies and data I will discuss can be relevant for any elementary teacher. After this research I am hoping to find out how consistent guided reading can improve students’ reading skills. I look forward to exploring my research and having discussions about a variety of topics with you.
