How does consistent use of different reading strategies affect the reading comprehension of second-grade students? Throughout the fourteen years I have been teaching, I have seen many readers struggling with comprehension. I have seen very fluent readers and struggling readers alike have difficulty with comprehending. They can read fluently but are unable to answer questions about the story they just read. Our students’ ability to read fluently and understand what they are reading impacts their learning in all other subject areas throughout their educational careers. Finding what works for students and having the most significant impact on students’ comprehension is what led me to my action research topic on reading strategies and comprehension. I think you should consider attending this seminar if you have ever asked yourself similar questions or if you have ever had a student struggle with comprehension.
