Differentiating your instruction to meet the needs of your students is essential in the classroom, but how can this be incorporated into a distance learning setting? If you are interested in discussing strategies for differentiated instruction and the effects it has on student engagement, this session is for you. At the beginning of the school year, I noticed my 4th grade students struggling to stay engaged with the content we were learning while being online. I implemented small groups and tiered tasks based on formative assessments and student interests. I began noticing that my students were more engaged in their learning when the activity was at their level. During this session, we will explore various ways to get to know your students personally and academically, how to group students, and how this affects their engagement in class and on their assignments. My findings can be extended to all elementary level distance learning classrooms.
