What do the words "Spider Web," "Fish Bowl" and "Socratic" have in common? They are all different types of classroom discussions, where every student has a voice and a perspective on topics they are learning. Discussions give students an opportunity to learn from others and to hear other perspectives in the classroom. However, giving students opportunities to share their opinions and listen to others is not unique to social studies. Every subject and grade level can engage students in civic discussions. My hope is that this seminar gives you an opportunity to dig deeper into how to facilitate and engage students in different types of classroom discussions. If you are looking for an opportunity to "discuss discussions," then this session is for you!
