Throughout my years of teaching I have noticed that students become disengaged in learning when little to no movement is being made. I have seen kids with their heads on desks, while being very unmotivated to answer any questions. My students eyes would light up when I would mention turning on a GoNoodle. After the GoNoodle I noticed that my students were much more lively and ready to learn. After reflecting over the last two years of my teaching I wanted to discover a way to make my teaching better for my students and I knew that movement would be a great place to start. Therefore, I decided to focus my action research on how motivation engages learners for Reading in a second-grade classroom. If you are interested in seeing how movement impacts engagement in any elementary-aged classroom then this session is for you! More specifically I implemented my research in a 2nd grade classroom during a reading block, but I feel this research would apply to any elementary-aged classroom, as well as many other subject areas.
