Personalized learning. This has become a "buzz word" in education over the past several years. But what does it mean? Does it work? Does it impact student achievement? I took some time over the summer to really dive into the research behind personalized learning; what is the definition, benefits, drawbacks, and strategies that are used in a personalized learning classroom. I then implemented several personalized learning strategies with my group of 7th grade math students this year during our unit on operations with rational numbers. Personalized learning can be utilized in all types of learning environments; elementary classrooms, music lesson, and high school classrooms. During our time together we will talk about what personalized learning is, how it looked in my classroom, if it helped student achievement, and ways you could incorporate personalized learning strategies in your learning environment. If designing lesson plans that incorporate choice boards, stations, playlists, and surveys interests you, I would encourage you to join me in April!
