What do you do when you are trying to teach a guided math group at your table and a student at their desk begins to shut down because they are so frustrated and don’t know what to do? It’s not about what you do at the very moment, but what you do BEFORE that moment comes. If you are interested in discussing the importance of having a morning meeting with growth mindset lessons taught within and how that can positively affect the attitude and perseverance they have when coming upon a tricky math concept during their math independent work time, this session is for you! I wanted to determine how I could increase student engagement and effort put in during math. I began my research having all of my students in-person with me two days a week, switched to a five-day a week distance learning model and then to in-person full time. This has greatly affected my research. I implemented the growth mindset lessons in my fourth-grade class, but I feel that the research is prevalent in third, fourth, and fifth-grade classrooms. I hope that you will be encouraged to dive into setting aside time for a morning meeting and teaching lessons on growth mindset! Looking forward to a great discussion about how to get these implemented and how it can positively impact our students!
