Have ever read a picture book aloud to your class? Did you know read alouds help promote the growth of social emotional learning skills of your students? If you are interested in learning how this can successfully be done, then my session is for you! I embarked on my action research journey after studying how important it is to teach social emotional learning skills directly in the classroom. In my research I studied how to use interactive read alouds in the classroom to help students grow in the five social emotional domains of self awareness, self management, social awareness, relationship building, and decision making. I completed my action research with my third grade class, but this is easily adaptable to many other grade levels. After attending my session I would like you to walk away with an understanding of how important direct instruction is for social emotional skill development, strategies for successfully implementing interactive read alouds (specifically focused on social emotional skills), and a list of resources you could use in your classroom the very next day! If you are interested in learning how to teach social emotional learning skills using interactive read alouds then join me at Spring Conference for a great discussion!
