Most teachers strive for high student motivation and engagement, but It’s easy to fall into a pattern of traditional lectures which place students on autopilot to memorize information. Being mindful and intentional with active learning strategies can help push students to tap into their prior knowledge and apply their understanding on a deeper level. Sparking student engagement through active learning activities is essential for all grade levels and content areas. The types of strategies I researched and applied are especially relevant to middle level and secondary educators. My hope is for participants to walk away with fresh ideas on how to engage students utilizing strategies that stray away from traditional, passive learning. If you are interested in discussing ways we can place our students in the driver seat of their learning, please join me for this session!
