In March of 2020, a life-altering change occurred for teachers across the globe. In a weeks time, teachers, parents, and students changed how they experienced school in a drastic way. COVID-19 caused the traditional way of teaching to abruptly end and distance learning to begin. Many worries went through everyone's minds: How will we hold students accountable? What if the family doesn't have access to the internet? Will students even be able to learn from a distance? One of my main concerns was how I could continue to build those strong connections with my students. I value the relationships I build with my students and see it as one of the main reasons I am able to be a successful teacher. I decided to research how technology can be used in positive ways in both virtual and in-person classrooms to help assist in building strong classroom communities. I experimented with many different activities and observed how my students were reacting as a class. Please join me for a collaborative discussion on how technology can impact our classroom communities both virtually and in-person.
