Sarah uses reflections to sum up her daily learning. Jared closes his notebook before finishing his notes. Find out how they did in their math class at Spring Conference.

Abstract

The question guiding my research is as follows: How Will Student Reflections Enhance Understanding in High School Math? A review of the literature suggested strategies in several areas of my practice that could help me bring about the changes I am seeking. As a result of my literature review, areas I targeted for change in my practice included skill development for my students in 1) reflection writing 2) goal setting and 3) monitoring. Reflections for myself started with me assessing my lessons to build in the use of goals and reflective learning. The ways I had students assess the effectiveness of their reflection writing included 1) writing daily reflections 2) grading their reflections at the end of each unit and 3) self monitoring done each day.
