Concept/Strategy

Focus of the Research

Are children intentionally out to get you? Do they wake up and think I would really like to upset my teachers, parents or caregivers? Understanding the specifics of child development of children might change adults perspectives on challenging behavior. Exploring the perspective adults take on behavior has a strong impact on reducing challenging behavior in children birth-3rd grade.

Is it a full Moon? They are out of control! Have you ever felt like young children are out to get you? Like they woke up and thought to themselves I can’t wait to make this day the worst day ever for all the adults in my life? This is what it might feel like when a child is having a behavior that seems out of control. If we take a moment to stop and think, this likely is not the case. Imagine being that child? Do you think feeling out of control feels good to them? The answer is, probably not. When young children feel out of control they are trying to communicate to the adults in their world that they need love and support and it can be really scary to have big feelings. How can adults understand child development and support rather than punish in moments of intense behaviors? Join this session to discuss further.
