“Grab a highlighter, we’re writing in our books today!” Have you wondered about different reading strategies that can be used to help engage your students and increase their reading skills at the same time? There are many different ways that you can easily add reading strategies to your lessons. Some of them may require a little more time than others, but overall, they can really be beneficial to your students. Research gave me several ideas to try with my students. Students all come to us with a mixture of prior or background knowledge that can affect their understanding. That mixed with how we teach reading skills can affect how much our students can learn. It’s important to help our students with reading to both improve their communication and ability to solve problems. If you want to help your students increase their reading skills whether it is for English, Science, or even Social Studies class, this session is for you. We will discuss some of my research and strategies I used in my class.
