“We don’t lick our friends!” is not something I ever thought I would have to say. As an educator I often find myself saying phrases that sound unusual to other adults as I am attempting to teach social and emotional learning skills to my students. My research is exciting because it not only addresses how to best teach students social and emotional learning skills, but also explores how to help them apply these skills. There will always be situations where students will need an adult's support and giving families the tools to support their students has allowed students to become more independent and confident in applying different strategies. I believe this research can be applied to nearly any subject matter or grade level, as all students need more support in applying social and emotional learning. I am excited to share what I have learned with you and discuss the implications of this research, as well as inspire you to try something new and take the next step in better supporting students and their families.
