“I’m just not smart at math. If Billy doesn’t know it, then how do you expect the rest of us to know it?” Tired of hearing that same old tune from your students in math or any other subject? The problem isn’t the ability, it is the mindset! In my seminar we will get a glimpse into the world of collaborative learning and how it can change the mindset of students by empowering them as learners. In my research my students and I explored how collaborative grouping can transform not only how we work on math, but how we discuss it. We will actively engage in an example discussion that I use with my students to see how we can foster a positive growth in mindset towards mathematics and other subject areas. After our discussions you will feel more empowered in your own abilities and in helping students see theirs as well in a collaborative model. So if you want to change that tune in your classroom, come join me and our fellow colleagues on changing student mindsets using collaborative learning!
