Throughout my years of teaching, I have noticed that students thrive on structure and benefit from a set schedule every day. There is always buzz around what the most beneficial phonics program is to get the best results for our students. After all, we are setting the basis for the start of their educational journey. I have recognized a need for an everyday consistent phonics curriculum in order to help my kindergarten students improve their reading and identification of letters and basic sight words. When they are able to become more confident in these skills it will also help with their writing. After completing research on the topic of Phonics, I landed on the question: Will implementing a set of phonics lessons daily in my classroom improve students' reading skills? If you are interested in talking about the benefits I noticed when using a set Phonics curriculum to help my students set the framework for learning, how to sound out words, and read in the classroom then this session is for you! I implemented my research in a kindergarten classroom during our phonics time, but I feel this research would apply to any early elementary-aged classroom.
